On Embracing Your Uniqueness

Growing up I felt like I didn’t fit in.

I was athletic enough to be on the team but not good enough to play in the games. I was friends at school with the popular kids but never invited to hang out with them after school was out. I wanted to play sports with the boys on my block while my friends just wanted to sit around and talk about them. I was smart and got good grades but took art instead of math, typing, and business like my friends.

It hasn’t entirely changed now that I am older. For years I indulged in a pity party but now I am doing things differently. Join me over at Faith Gateway to READ MORE.

Bearing God’s Image

Have you ever noticed, upon meeting a child for the first time, you can easily match up the “grown-up” they belong to? Sometimes they are the spitting image of their mom or dad, and other times it’s the similarity to their parent’s mannerisms, behavior, or even dress that gives them away.  Our family is no different.

I Choose to Believe - More to Be

I used to think that my value and worth by what I did (or didn’t do) for a living, how much I got done in a day, and how clean my house was. That lie made me feel less than and consequently affected the kind of woman, wife, and mother I was.

Head over to More to Be to read the story of how an experience with my oldest daughter and her swim team taught me to recognize the lies that held me back and counter them with the truth.

Living Out Our Identity in Christ

Back in December I taught my kids about their identity in Christ. It was shortly after that that my son and I happen to watch the Netflix series The Crown together. It's a show, set in England in the mid-1900s, that focuses on Queen Elizabeth II, England’s current monarch, in her early reign. We were immediately hooked and binged the whole first season.

It's a show, set in England in the mid-1900s, that focuses on Queen Elizabeth II, England’s current monarch, in her early reign. We were immediately hooked and binged the whole first season.

What struck me most about her story was that the choices she had to make from her position as the queen varied greatly from the choices she would have made simply as a women, wife, or sister. As I thought about this, it occurred to me that there are many times we'll have to make decisions from our position as a child of the King and ambassadors to our culture as well.

I am talking about it more over at More to Be. Join me there...

This Month: Learning What the Bible Says About Identity

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, it’s the perfect time to remind our little ones just how much God loves them. He loved them enough to send His only Son, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, into this world to ultimately pay the price for their sins. An understanding of that love speaks to their identity - who they believe they are.

This month I am focusing on the topic of IDENTITY with my children.

The greatest foundation we can can give our kids is a true understanding of the worth and value they have in the eyes of their Creator. They are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared, not as an afterthought, but beforehand (Ephesians 2:10). He has plans to prosper them and not to harm them, plans to give them a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). As the children of the king they are chosen, a royal priest, and a holy nation, and a special treasure. (1 Peter 2:9)  All they have to do is look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet their heavenly Father feeds them. Are our children not of more value than them? (Matthew 6:26)
